Brow lift

As you age, your skin loses support and elasticity. This can lead to signs of aging in the upper face such as deep creases in the forehead and heavy eyebrows. Brow lift surgery, also known as forehead lift surgery, removes and lifts excess forehead skin while tightening the underlying muscles to leave you with a rejuvenated, more youthful appearance. Dr. Schmidt has extensive experience in performing facial rejuvenation procedures and believes in providing every patient with an individualized treatment plan to promote balance and facial harmony.

Brow Lift Surgery Can Correct...

Forehead Wrinkles
Over time, deep horizontal creases can develop across the forehead, and vertical lines form between the brows. Brow lift surgery can smooth out these lines, shedding years from your appearance.
Sagging Brows
As the tissues in the forehead age and begin to break down, gravity pulls the eyebrows down. This causes them to become heavy and potentially hood the upper eyelids. Brow lift surgery can reverse this obstruction and return the brows to a more youthful position.
Vision Obstruction
In severe cases, excessive sagging of the brows can create hooded upper eyelids that interfere with your vision. By lifting the tissues, removing the excess skin, and tightening the underlying muscles, your full range of vision can be restored.
Unfavorable Expressions
Having excess skin and drooping brows can limit your visible range of emotions. You may consistently look angry, sad, or tired due to your sagging, heavy eyebrows. Brow lift surgery can restore youthfulness to the upper portion of your face.

Brow Lift Surgery Procedure

Model

Dr. Schmidt

performs brow lift surgery with the patient under sedation anesthesia at a surgery center. Incisions are made in the hairline and natural creases of the skin to lift the forehead tissues and return the brows to their natural level. Incisions are closed with stitches.

After Your Surgery

Recovery

Brow lift surgery is an outpatient procedure. You should arrange for someone to drive you home and stay with you for the first night. It is common to experience bruising and swelling, but these side effects should dissipate quickly. You may also experience some numbness on your scalp, but it should subside as your body heals. Stitches are removed after two weeks, at which time most patients can return to their normal activities.

Pain

Brow lift surgery is performed under sedation anesthesia to prevent any discomfort. During your recovery, you may be prescribed oral pain medication. Pain is typically minimal and should subside within a few days.

Scars

Incisions created during brow lift surgery are hidden in the hairline or existing skin folds, making them as inconspicuous as possible. Any visible scarring will continue to fade as your body heals until they are indiscernible.

Results

Your results will be noticeable immediately after the swelling and bruising subside. Final results are visible after a few months and can be maintained by adopting a healthy lifestyle that includes dedicated sun protection.

Frequently Asked Questions

Brow lift surgery is commonly combined with eyelid surgery to correct sagging skin and excess fat deposits in the upper and lower eyelids. It may also be combined with a facelift or neck lift for comprehensive facial rejuvenation.
Ideal candidates for brow lift surgery are in good general health, do not smoke, and have realistic expectations about their results. You may be a candidate if you have visible signs of aging in the upper face such as frown lines between the brows and sagging eyebrows that obscure your vision.
When combined with a healthy lifestyle and proper sun protection, the results of a brow lift are known to be long lasting. That being said, no surgery can prevent future aging, and your skin will likely show additional signs of aging as time passes.
While both of these surgeries focus on the upper part of the face, a brow lift will address forehead wrinkles and sagging eyebrows, whereas eyelid surgery focuses on the upper and lower eyelids. If you notice substantial horizontal wrinkling across your forehead, vertical creases between your eyes, and sagging brows, a brow lift may be for you.
Any surgery comes with the possibility of complications. Although rare, potential risks associated with brow lift surgery include:
  • Abnormal reaction to anesthesia
  • Bleeding
  • Elevated hairline
  • Scarring
  • Infection
  • Poor wound healing
