Botox

What is Botox?

Botox is a neuromodulator, which is a wrinkle-relaxing injection that treats:

  • Crow’s feet around the eyes
  • Vertical lines between the eyes
  • Forehead wrinkles

When undergoing Botox treatments at West End Facial Plastic Surgery, your facial plastic surgeon administers the right amount of medication to make you look relaxed, not frozen.

They use Botox Cosmetic and also have Xeomin® available, a similar neurotoxin. During the consultation, your provider selects the best option for your needs.

How does Botox or Xeomin work?

Botox or Xeomin specifically addresses your dynamic wrinkles, which are the lines and creases that develop from repeated facial expressions. When injected into specific facial muscles, the neuromodulator blocks the nerve signals that cause your muscles to contract.

By blocking the nerve signal, your facial muscles relax, and the lines and creases smooth themselves out.

Depending on your beauty needs and goals, West End Facial Plastic Surgery may suggest combining your Botox or Xeomin injections with fillers for a liquid facelift. Fillers are cosmetic injections that add volume under your skin to smooth out lines and creases and enhance natural features.

What happens during Botox injections?

Botox injections are a quick in-office cosmetic treatment. During your session, your facial plastic surgeon carefully and expertly injects small amounts of Botox into specific facial muscles to get subtle yet noticeable results. The process is the same for Xeomin injections.

Redness at the injection site is common after Botox treatments, but these side effects disappear quickly, and you can cover any marks with makeup. Your provider recommends that you not rub or massage the skin at or around the injection site.

You can resume your usual day after your Botox injections, but you should skip any strenuous physical activity for at least two hours to prevent bruising.

How long does Botox last?

Botox injections temporarily smooth out facial lines and wrinkles and typically last about three months. Once you start to notice a return of your lines and wrinkles, your West End Facial Plastic Surgery provider recommends you come in for your next set of injections.

Repeat Botox injections not only help you maintain your youthful look but may also prevent new lines and wrinkles from forming.

What is a Botox brow lift?

West End Facial Plastic Surgery also uses Botox to perform a non-surgical brow lift. During the in-office treatment, your provider injects Botox into the muscles between your eyebrows (frown lines) and the outside end of each of your eyebrows.

Botox relaxes these muscles, allowing the forehead muscles to lift the brows and open the eyes.

Fillers

What are fillers?

Fillers are non-surgical cosmetic injections that correct deep facial wrinkles and folds. Made from a variety of materials, fillers replace age-related volume loss to restore a more youthful look.

As you get older, the layer of fat under your skin diminishes. Without the fat, your skin loosens and sags, creating the deep lines and folds around your mouth and chin. Loss of fat also allows the muscles to work closer to your skin, making your expression lines (crow’s feet, frown lines, forehead wrinkles) more noticeable.

West End Facial Plastic Surgery uses many types of fillers that vary in thickness, composition, and longevity to design a treatment plan that matches your beauty goals and provides the most natural results.

The experts at West End Facial Plastic Surgery want to restore your natural youthful look, not make you look different.

How can fillers improve my appearance?

West End Facial Plastic Surgery uses fillers on different areas of the face to get the desired results. With fillers, your facial plastic surgeon can:

  • Smooth out lines around the nose and mouth
  • Fill in vertical lip lines
  • Restore lost volume to cheeks and temples
  • Plump up thin lips
  • Improve facial symmetry

West End Facial Plastic Surgery may combine your fillers with Botox® injections to perform a liquid facelift. During a liquid facelift, your facial plastic surgeon uses Botox on the upper face to smooth out expression lines and fillers on the lower face to add volume underneath deep wrinkles.

What happens during treatment with fillers?

West End Facial Plastic Surgery administers fillers at the office. Your provider first applies a topical numbing cream to minimize discomfort during your injections. Fillers often include a numbing medicine in their mix as well for a more comfortable experience.

Your facial plastic surgeon carefully and expertly injects the filler into specific areas of your skin to get the desired results. Filler injections take less than an hour.

Though you may notice some swelling and redness after your filler treatment, there’s no need for downtime, and you can resume your usual activities after your session.

However, West End Facial Plastic Surgery recommends you skip strenuous physical activity for one to two days after your filler injections to reduce the risk of bruising.

How long do fillers last?

The longevity of your non-surgical cosmetic treatment depends on the type of filler used and the location. Fillers may last anywhere from six months to a year or more.
